Meet New Alumni Council Member Patty Engert-Williamson

Council Corner - Patti Engert-Williamson 03-2014

For School of Psychology alum Patty Engert-Williamson, joining the Alumni Council last fall was a family affair. Her husband and fellow School of Psychology alum Rick Williamson (PhDPSY '02, MAT '02, MAPSY '98) had just completed seven years of service on the council, including a year as chair. Patty and Rick met as students at Fuller, and their family now includes a beautiful five-year-old daughter, Rochelle.

A clinical psychologist with a private practice in South Pasadena, Patty works primarily with children, adolescents, and families. "I love to see people grow and change in ways they that didn't think they could grow and change," she says. With children and adolescents, "I enjoy seeing what their potential is-where they could be as healthy adults-and helping them get on that path."

Patty feels Fuller did more than prepare her professionally. "I could have gone anywhere to be trained as a psychologist," she says. "I came to Fuller for its emphasis on theology as well. My theology classes are what really shaped me as a person."

She cherishes the relationships formed while she was at Fuller. "Those relationships continue today. The friends I made are also my colleagues and provide wonderful support and resources to me both personally and professionally."

Patty now supervises current Fuller students in their clinical placements, and has also served as an adjunct professor both at Fuller and at Alliant International University's California School of Professional Psychology. "Teaching and supervising is a way I can give back to the school and to students," she says.

And she is giving back with her service on the Alumni Council. "I have a loyalty to Fuller. I had a great experience, and I want to see Fuller continue to be great. So I'd like to help with that in any way I can."
