SUMMARY:Fuller Texas: How does worship change lives?
DESCRIPTION:On November 8\, 2018 Dr. Alexis Abernethy\, Fuller’s Associate Provost for Faculty Inclusion and Equity and Professor of Psychology\, will host a public lecture in Houston\, TX on “How Worship Changes Lives?”\, exploring such questions as: \n\nHow does worship impact and change us?\nHow do our songs and sermons\, prayers\, and praises actually help us learn\, grow and develop as disciples?\n\nFor years Dr. Abernethy has studied the worshipping lives of diverse congregations. Her research focuses on how our worship practices facilitate spiritual transformation and growth. \nWe invite you to join leaders around the Houston area as Dr. Abernethy shares the results of her research and invites us into a larger conversation about how we can design and lead worshipping communities toward deeper spiritual growth and development. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Online registration is required.

SUMMARY:Fuller Texas Lecture Event: Christmas In America
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, Fuller Seminary Texas is hosting a lecture on Christmas in America: Why Putting Christ Back in Christmas is Not Enough. This will explore such questions as: \n\nWhat does it mean to celebrate Christmas in America? \nWhat does it look like to bear faithful witness at Christmas in our homes and churches? \nIn what ways do our celebrations lean more to the influence of Charles Dickens and Santa Claus drinking a Coca-Cola than to the birth narratives of Matthew and Luke? \nAnd why do we feel more exhausted and stressed than peaceful and nourished at Christmas?\n\nThis event is lead by Dr. David Taylor\, Director of Brehm Texas and Assistant Professor of Theology and Culture\, and will feature live performances of original Christmas hymns and songs. This event is free and open to the public. Online registration is required.

SUMMARY:Memorial Service For David Kiefer
DESCRIPTION:Dear Fuller Community\, \nThe memorial service for David Kiefer will be held on Wednesday\, planned by Gwen Fleming and Julie Tai—with Linda Kiefer’s direction. The service will include many of David’s colleagues who are eager to honor him in ways they know would suit him. The staff at Lake Avenue were eager to host the memorial in their chapel\, says Gwen\, “because of their love for David!” Of course\, what a fitting campus for this service\, where David orchestrated seamlessly so many of our commencement programs: fitting and also bittersweet. A reception will follow in Lake Avenue’s Skyroom Reception Hall. \nParking will be available adjacent to the sanctuary. \nThe David Kiefer Scholarship Fund has been established in honor of David’s forty years of service to Fuller Seminary. This is a general fund for scholarships.  Checks should be made out to Fuller Theological Seminary and marked for this purpose. \nWith you in sorrow and gratitude\, \nMark Labberton
