A committed and empathetic PhD (ABD) candidate in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary with close to twenty years of experience in teaching, leadership, and pastoral care across diverse contexts. Trained in theology and missiology, with particular strengths in mission history, public theology, World Christianity, and the study of marginalized communities, especially Dalits, through a social justice lens. Holds a Doctor of Missiology and a Master of Arts in Religion from Andrews University, reflecting a strong foundation in theological scholarship and ministerial formation. Previously served as an assistant professor of theology and Dean of Men in India, combining academic rigor with holistic student mentoring and pastoral leadership. Currently serves as a Faculty Apprentice and Community Coordinator for Housing in Pasadena, CA, integrating academic engagement with practical leadership, community care, and intercultural sensitivity in a multicultural setting.

How important is it to ask the right question? How important is it to know what to ask? How important is it to ask what we need to know? Such thought-provoking questions are crucial for learning to teach. On several occasions, a gap is created between the learner and the teacher. Perhaps, most of the time, this is due to a lack of knowledge about the learners and their context. Consequently, a contextual pedagogical approach is needed within the church’s teaching-learning framework. This paper is the outcome of an experiment conducted by both authors in Bihar in 2018. The authors analyze and implement Jane Vella’s ‘Seven Steps of Design’ for pastors and Bible workers in Bihar to develop a disciple-making program that is contextually relevant.
